Six years with my knight in shining armor.

Four years with my knight in dented armor

Two years with my knight in rusted armor

I, Makenzie Mayfair am leaving my husband.

This is my chance to begin again, to rip out my backbone and yell, “I’ve found it.” It may take time, it may take new friends, a job and even a jerk of a boss who is annoyingly handsome, but I will get there.

I’m determined to be who I want to be, and plan to have a whole heap of fun along the way.

I was born in Brisbane Australia, my step-dad was in the army which caused us to move around a lot. We finally settled in country Victoria, Australia. I am the youngest of four children and I can say that I was spoilt a bit. I drove my mum crazy when I refused to eat meat at a young age.

Now I live with my husband and two children, and I find myself regretting all the troubles I put my parents through because my monsters are just as picky as I was.

I started writing in 2013 and self-published the first of the Hawks MC Club series, Holding Out. The next to follow was something different, I wrote Senseless Attraction, a YA novel. Soon, I was back to the Hawks series with number two, Climbing Out. I have more to write in the series, but there will be also be more novels in the humorous erotica genre, like Left to Chance.

Book Info

Cautionary tales don’t usually have happy endings… Raised in foster care. The sister of a whore. The fool who fell for the wrong guy. Paisley James is all too aware that sometimes fairy tales just don’t exist. There is no telling where hearts belong or loyalties lie when deceit is in bloom. Author Note: Deceit in Bloom is book one of a series and ends in a BIG, dramatic cliffhanger (No joke). The story continues in book two, Vengeance in Bloom

Review

Deceit in Bloom (Love Unauthorized, #1)Deceit in Bloom by Jennifer Michael
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

*** I voluntarily reviewed this book, I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book, these are my honest ramblings and I hope you enjoy reading them - kat***

This debut novel by Jennifer Micheal is not a fairytale, it's quite raw and brutal, you would not want to be Paisley or Braelyn, foster sisters that were thrown together as children, escaped the brutal foster care system to the streets. Brae soon figures out her body can earn her an easier life, but Paisley bless her goes the hard route of waiting tables. They exist together, both are scarred by their upbringings Paisley and Brae only have each other... until they don't. When Paisley goes with Brae to a party in a swanky part of town, she runs into Burke, arrogant, alpha and totally Hottt! Paisley butts heads with him in their first encounter, but her stare down and smart smack down to his assumptions gets Burke interested.
Burke, his best mate Kai, and his younger sister Teagan run a Tattoo shop, and other not so Legal businesses, and have been a family unit since Teagan was orphaned at 10 and the boys were 18, They are loyal to each other, but lo behold anyone who crosses them or threatens Teagan!

Paisley's path crosses with the 3 at the Diner she works at, and eventually Paisley decides to let fate take its course, and the pair are soon hot and heavy.

Now I thought this was going to turn into a typical Dark romance - bad boys, shady dealings and the not so pretty side of the street. But this book actually has more.
There is no telling where hearts belong or loyalties lie when deceit is in bloom.
THIS is so true
This book really will have you head scratching, kindle throwing and wanting to go shout at the author for that Cliffhanger... BUT look she warns you in the blurb, so we shouldn't be that surprised.

Jennifer has done a very good job at both creating the relationships between the characters, they are flawed, selfish at times but overall they make sense. Teagan seems the most innocent, and I do worry about what will happen in book 2 with her.
(cryptic much, but I do not do spoiler reviews and I really think this book is best read with not much information.)
There are a whole bunch of twists and half truths that will have you madly trying to think of what the heck is really going on. Seriously I hardly got any sleep last night, my mind would not quit trying to figure out what was going on!
Author Note: Deceit in Bloom is book one of a series and ends in a BIG, dramatic cliffhanger (No joke). The story continues in book two, Vengeance in Bloom.
and has promised book 2 will be out in March, but boy it will be a long wait.

The book has some violence and there are plenty of hot scenes, so it's definitely 18+ but I for one will be adding Jennifer Michael to my Authors to follow, and I can't wait to find out what the heck is going on with Paisley... I hope I get a HEA, but the author did say that its NOT a fairytale so I may have to toughen up!

Author Bio

As a child, Jennifer Michael dreamed of being an author. Life and adulting eventually pushed that dream down to a mere fantasy, which was where it stayed for years. Then, through a stroke of luck and a Kindle, she found the indie romance world, and the dream that was long ago deemed unattainable became a reality. Writing fulfills pieces of her she lost long ago. Jennifer writes stories that range from sweet and sultry to dark and daring. Behind her computer, she’s constantly dreaming up where she’ll go, what new characters she’ll meet along the way, and what genre she will concur next. From her house in southwest Florida, she spends far too much time wishing she were at the beach with a good book. She’s an avid reader of fiction, but is a huge fan of gritty stories with deep emotion or dark twisty plot twists. She’s also known to indulge in guilty pleasure television shows. Review: A Manhattanites ChristmasBy Avery Aster @AveryAster

christmas_highresSynopsis

Note: Stand-alone, M/F, contemporary erotic romance, HEA, cliffhanger free, introduces a new couple. No subplots from previous books in the series.
Move over, Vanderpump Rules, there's a new reality TV show about to air this holiday season, and it's hotter and naughtier than ever
When it comes to raising his only son, who's on the spectrum, single dad Sheldon Truman will do whatever it takes to secure the best Christmas for his autistic child, even if that means marrying America's leading pop princess and starring on Newlywed Boot Camp to pay for it. After all, he doesn't believe in marriage, monogamy, or happily ever after, so what's there to lose?
With a failing handbag line, a perfume brand that stinks, and a singing career gone flat, actress Neve Adele will do anything that her PR firm, Brill Inc., throws her way. So when she's cast alongside the hottest bad boy she's ever met, the cameras start rolling, and they're forced to share a bed. The psychological games the show puts them through stir up painful emotions from her past, a childhood filled with impoverished abandonment.
Once the filming is over, the feelings that Neve's been faking toward Sheldon suddenly become a reality. Can she stop thinking about him and get her career back on track? Or will she give up her hunger for fame and get real with the Manhattanite who not only took her virginity but her heart?

*** I voluntarily reviewed this book, via NetGalley I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book, these are my honest ramblings and I hope you enjoy reading them - kat***
I do like the characters that Avery Aster writes about, they are pure escapism and a great way to zone out from the humdrum reality of real life.
We really don't get to see much of the familiar characters in this book, a brief cameo by Taddy and Kiki and Blake at Brill inc, but the main story centres on Taddy's Brother in law, single dad Sheldon Truman, he is trying to do the right thing for his autistic child, and to do that he needs money, he won't take charity from his brother Warner, so that means he is going to agree to go on a reality TV show!
The show is a Newlywed Boot Camp with Neve Adele, a C-lister she is beginning to see her fame slip, she is willing to do anything, even if it means marrying a total stranger!
The pair feel an attraction, and even though they think they are incompatible - it seems they have a lot of things that they like about each other...
As they work together in the program they begin to peel back the layers that each of them hide behind.
I liked this couple, they looked completely incompatible from the outside, but their hearts told a different story.
Of course, this is an Avery Aster Book so the sex was HOTT! but I loved the way that Neve had to work through what she thought she wanted... and when she got it, found what she really wanted was what she'd walked away from

Am I willing to trust him with my life - or should I let another stranger tame the beast that threatens to tear apart my soul?

Will the curse be lifted or am I doomed to remain in the darkness... alone with my demon?

This is the 4th Book I have read in this Blood Courtesan series, they are fast becoming addictive.
Piper was a great lead character, she was sassy, brave and able to look after herself, Working as a PI little does she know that while on an assignment in Egypt she was cursed!
She knows that she is being targeted, but she can't figure out why, so she enlists the help of the Vampires.
The Vampire who assists the Police department in Supernatural cases is the vampire that finally tries to help. Sebastian feels the need to protect Piper, both because of his honour and also the draw her blood has for him. There are some twists in the story that will give both of them some issues to face, but it was a very enjoyable storyline. The pair grow close while on their mission to find out what is after Piper, not even the Vampire Council will keep him from keeping her safe.
Piper strong to the end isn't a damsel in distress, she loves Sebastian and she will fight to keep him safe, even if it means putting herself in the firing range. When she works out who is targeting her, she gets a bit of a shock, but not even a prophecy will stop her from ruling her own destiny... Will it be one that includes Sebastian? Well, you will have to read it to find out.

If Blood Should Stain The Wattle By Jackie French #5Stars #HistoricalFiction #Teen #YoungAdult #Review @jackie_french_ @HarperCollinsNZ

It's 1972 in Gibber's Creek, and across the nation, the catchcry is, 'It's time'.
In 1972, and the catchcry is 'It's time'.
As political ideals drift from disaster to the dismissal, it's also time for Jed Kelly to choose between past love, Nicholas, the local Labor member, and Sam from the Halfway to Eternity commune. It's time too for Matilda Thompson to face her ghosts and the life that took a young girl from the slums of Grinder's Alley to being the formidable matriarch of Gibber's Creek.
During this period of extraordinary social change and idealism, modern Australia would be born. And although the nation would dream of a better world, it would continue to struggle with opposing ideas of exactly what that better world might be.
Jackie French, author of the bestselling To Love a Sunburnt Country, has woven her own experience of that time into an unforgettable story of a small rural community and a nation swept into the social and political tumult of the early 1970s. A time that would bear witness to some of the most controversial events in Australian history; and for Matilda, a time that would see her vision made real, without blood spilled upon the wattle.

If Blood Should Stain the WattleIf Blood Should Stain the Wattle by Jackie French
Kat's rating: 5 of 5 stars

***I voluntarily reviewed a Copy of this book this is my honest review & I thank the Author and publishers Harper Collins NZ for a great read***

This is the first ever Jackie French book I have read, but the cover just drew me in, I love this cover, the colours, the expression on the girls face and the red dusty rural Australian backdrop just made me want to read it, the blurb drew me in further, so the publishing team get 5 stars for such a good job.

This is a historical fiction, ok 1975 is not too many people historical fiction (its my childhood), but to a 13 year old today, it will definitely seem ancient!

So what did I think - I feel that this book was an 'enlightening and very grown-up book', which is funny as this is a teen book, but maybe that is why I feel I now understand a little more about why politics never seem to change, the authors characters and their experiences showed me not only far the world has come while I was growing up, but how nothing much has changed in the way of politics, and also how hard it must have been living in Australia if you were not White and Male.
This captivating story, gives the reader a window into the lives of the characters, in an eloquent but easy to digest way.

This book is the 6th book in this series, (for information on the others see the authors website) and in the way its sort of Matilda's last book... or is it?

The main characters in the book are Jed who is introduced in the 5th book The Ghost by the Billabong Scarlett, her wheelchair bound adopted sister and Matilda, the awesome matriarch - I hope i get to be as awesome as she was when I am old and grey. And Leafsong, the mute who along with Scarlet starts on the path of adulthood in the turbulent political events that happened from 1972 to 1975 – I did a fair amount of researching while reading, growing up in the UK I certainly didn't feel that my mother or aunts had such a stilted life that Australia seemed to have.

This novel is a symbolic reflection of a poem ‘Freedom on the Wallaby’ by Henry Lawson, I also found the full poem while reading it, and I guess that is what is great about reading this book - It inspired me to learn more, and what more could you want when looking for a book, for your teen to read?

I also love the mysticism in this book, the Aboriginal and the Aliens too, Chapter 91 was a favourite :D, I love Aliens, I am a Sci-fi fan, love anything mystical or paranormal and I love unusual characters, maybe that is why Leafsong was and still is my favourite character, Matilda was my second favourite.

I laughed and cried and read nervously as the 11th November came around, wondering whether Ra Zacharia would succeed. Who is he, well I suggest you grab a copy of the book, or better yet go source the others and read them in order. - I am going to do just that, and a few others that have taken my fancy that Ms. French has written.

This book is aimed at the TEEN market, but I would have never guessed it if I had not known. Any adult who loves fiction that is based on true events will fall in love with this author, I certainly will be reading many more of Ms. French's titles.

The flow and beauty of the words, the characters who become real as you experience their journey through the years, I have truly loved reading this captivating book. #Top2017read.

I was the Australian National Children’s Laureate for 2014 and 2015 and the 2015 Senior Australian of the Year.

My writing career spans 25 years, 148 wombats, over 140 books, 36 languages, 3,721 bush rats, and over 60 awards in Australia and overseas.

I wrote my first children's book `Rainstones' in a desperate attempt to earn $106.40 to register the car; while living in a shed with a wallaby called Fred, a black snake called Gladys and a wombat called Smudge. The editor at HarperCollins said it was the messiest, worst spelt manuscript they'd ever received. The mess was because Smudge the wombat left his droppings on the typewriter every night. The spelling was because I am dyslexic. I would recommend all beginning writers misspell their first book so it stands out of the pile.

Satisfaction by K.M. Golland
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have had this book for ages since #RWDU15 but I did not get time to read it, since I am without internet and a house I am finding time to catch up reading.

I remember book 1 well and I found it easy to slip back into the lives of Lex and Bryce. or Brilexis lol.

I am not a fan of books where the storyline has a married couple involved, but this series is not a salacious scandalous marriage breakup, but more a realisation of that the couple have drifted apart and changed, so I have found it an enjoyable read.

Alexis has fallen for her charming boss - a billionaire ( well we all know this doesn't happen everyday, but heck this is fiction you know) and this book is a continuation of book 1, Alexis and Bryce are spending a week together, to find out where their feelings are going...

OK so that's all you get on the plot.

My thoughts

Well - as I read book 1 when it first published in 2014 I am glad that Ms Golland had the series picked up by Harlequin Mira, I loved Temptation and Ms Golland is a lovely lady.

Harlequin have not changed the voice of the characters but brought the best version of Ms Golland's Alexis and Bryce to the wider public. I found a copy of this book in my new local library in Bluff Southland, so it will be the furthest southernmost copy! And the others are available too.

The story is sweet, romantic, hot and at times heart wrenching, it also has some laugh out loud moments - the toilet scene at Opals had me trying to stifle my laughter while my hubby was sleeping soundly next to me.

I did not want to put the book down by the time I got to the last few chapters, so I read on late into the night.

The story went as I expected with a few plot twists that will bring some new challenges for Brylexis to handle the book finishes at a spot which will not leave you with a book hangover, but have you wanting to read book 3 'Fulfilment' to see what will happen next.

a well deserved 4 stars.

Review of Pursued: Mia (Blood Courtesans Series) by Liza Carlisle & Michell Fox @LisaCBooks @AuthorMFox

33304998It was only meant to be three nights...
After watching my mother die, becoming a Blood Courtesan is key to my future in medicine. With loans racking up, all I have to do is pretend I want the money for tuition, and I’m hired. No one can know the real reason for wanting this job.
But it isn’t as easy as it first seems. On my first night as a courtesan at a ball in Salem, I meet vampires for the first time—and flee.
Vampires are not easy dissuaded. And one in particular, Renato, offers me a proposal I find difficult to resist. He has a dark, smoldering appeal that lures me in. Plus, I might gain the insight I seek.
I’m supposed to provide a service and will be paid well for it. But my feelings complicate our arrangement—and endanger my life.
It was only meant to be three nights, but can I walk away now?
Welcome to the shadow world of Blood Courtesans…where vampires are real and blood is a commodity.
It's not supposed to be about love...until it is.

Mia decides that becoming a Blood Courtesan is key to her paying her loans for medical school, not an uncommon reason for young girls for becoming one, but she also has an ulterior motive that the vampires must not find out. Being a studious girl Mia is not ready for the aggressive vampire Gideon, so she leaves her first 'ball' but on the way home she is offered a lift home by the vampire who intervened with Gideon's brash come-on.
Renato, Italian, dark, suave and much more refined than Gideon doesn't frighten Mia as much, in fact she feels an attraction towards him and accepts the lift back.
Renato is intrigued by Mia too, and offers her a contract that she can't refuse. It was only meant to be three nights, a business transaction... But sometimes fate and what the heart wants, override the logic. Mia is falling for Renato, will Renato listen to his heart? Or will his rival Gideon see an opportunity for past slights in the form of the Innocent Mia?
The storyline had a good flow, I enjoyed the authors take on Mia's reasons for her focus on her medical goals.
Rival vampires Gideon and Renato gave the storyline some suspense and action when they inevitably fight over Mia.
Overall it was another great story from this Blood Courtesan series

✮ ✶ EXCERPT:

A grunt escapes my lips, as I try to roll over. It’s late. I’m not sure what time it is exactly, but I know it’s late. The lights on the pole are lit up, sending random colors reflecting off the windows and the mirror of his dresser. It’s calmingly beautiful. Holden is spread across the end of the bed with his long legs hanging over the side. It takes a few minutes for my eyes to adjust to the darkness.
Lifting the blanket off of me, I kneel on the bed, leaning towards Holden, attempting to see if he’s awake. My heart does a little flip when I notice a small brown, worn looking stuffed dog. I cannot believe he has kept it all this time. We were ten years old and we thought we owned the world, as we walked around the state fair.
I had forced Holden on every ride and he was paying for it with a massive headache. I kept teasing him about being weaker than me. I must have taken things a little too far because he wouldn’t look at me. Knowing I had hurt him, I grabbed him by the arm and dragged him behind me, until I found a game I knew I could win.
There was a rather obese man with greasy hair wearing a red shirt, juggling baseballs in front of his stand. Plates were lined up awkwardly on shelves behind him. All I had to do was break three plates and I would win the huge stuffed bear hanging on a wall full of smaller prizes. It took me eleven tries before I finally broke two plates.
I guess the guy must have felt bad for me because he handed me a small, brown stuffed dog with a white heart on its nose and told me to move along. It wasn’t what I was hoping for, but I gave it to Holden anyways. My reward was the tiniest of kisses on my cheek.
Giggling to myself, I lay back down. I’m not sure he would want me to see him sleeping with a stuffed animal, but I’m glad that I did. An idea pops into my head, just as I start to relax again. My eyes peer around the room until I find what I’m looking for. Sneaking over to his dresser as quietly as I can, I grab his camera and tiptoe back over to the bed.
The camera flashes when I snap his picture, causing me to immediately regret my decision. Afraid he might wake up and catch me, I grab the Polaroid picture and put the camera back where I found it. I slip back into bed and pull the blanket over me just in time. He rolls over and sits up a bit. My heart is frantic, as I watch him look across the room. I see his head turn and I quickly close my eyes.
“What are you doing?” His voice is raspy, almost menacing. Shit. I don’t answer, instead I pretend to be asleep. “I know you. I know when you are up to something. I also know you are awake. Being that it’s the middle of the night, I’m going to pretend I don’t know anything and I’m going back to sleep. Goodnight, Carsten.”
“Night.” Shit. Did I just answer him? I hear him laugh as he rolls over. Shit. I did answer him. Maybe he will forget, at least I hope he does. I wait a few minutes to make sure he’s sound asleep before I grab the Polaroid, shaking it a few times. There’s a glare from the flash. It almost looks as though Holden has a golden light surrounding him. I can barely make out the dark lump tucked under his arm. A grin spreads across my face, as I slide the picture into the pillowcase under my head.

✮ ✶ ABOUT THE AUTHOR

I grew up in Chicagoland and now live in quaint little town in Northwest Indiana. I have two beautiful children and husband who worships the ground I walk on (or at least he should). I've always loved reading. Now I'm expanding that love into writing and look forward to producing many books.
I'm a huge geek and proud of it. Books are my life. I love reading, especially fiction. It doesn't matter the genre or age group. I will read anything from comics to novels. I read at least one book a day. If it wasn't for my kindle, my living room would be overflowing with books.
