Blurb
Cassandrea is no stranger to bloodshed. As a siren bound to serve the black dragon king Valderan, her hands have known war, loss… and betrayal. Now, she faces a task far more taxing than any battlefield: she must interrogate the enemy's commander – General Rheon Nightshade.
But Entirie is a kingdom splintering at the seams. As the civil war between Valderan and his rebellious son Terren rages on, old alliances begin to fracture.
In the silence between battles, Cassandrea must decide what price she is willing to pay and what matters more: her loyalty or the truth.more: her loyalty or the truth.

KEY CHARACTERS
• Cassandrea Thalarin: A half-blood siren, spy, saboteur, and lone guerrilla operative for her dragon king, Valderan.
• Kerr: A handsome, brash, and dangerous kelpie. He has a mane of wavy brown hair, red eyes, broad shoulders, and a mischievous, sensual side.
• Dragon King Valderan: An ancient ruler. As a dragon, he is a massive black beast with golden eyes; in human form, he is tall and broad-shouldered with ebony hair and molten gold eyes. He is beautiful in both forms, but utterly brutal.
• General Rheon Nightshade: Captured by Valderan and brought to Cassandrea, who is forced to weigh her deeply ingrained loyalties against the shifting truths of the war.
QUICK IMPRESSION
After the betrayal by Kerr, Cassandrea is determined to do her best for her King. But when she is assigned to interrogate General Rheon Nightshade, things begin to get murky. Is she on the right side?
FINAL THOUGHTS
The Good: Once again, the incredible worldbuilding shines, with the lines blurred—which side is the righteous one? I definitely do not like Valderan, but Terran is an elusive character, and we still don't know much about why he rose up against Valderan. The cast of characters grows, and we get to understand the dynamics of why Kerr betrayed Cassandrea (not that I have forgiven him yet). There's another story arc in this book that will lead into book 3; this kept me reading late into the night, trying to understand how it related to Cassandrea, but I guess we'll find out in the next book.
The Bad: That other story arc 💔 my heart broke for Gorath... Honestly, even the horrible parts of the book had me wanting to understand why it was happening.
Verdict: When you are thinking about fictional characters even hours after reading, wondering if the characters you were rooting for will actually make it to the end, you know it's a great story. And that's what I love about reading: getting lost in a world where everything could change when you turn the page. I hope book 3 is as good as the first two.
