Title: Salt - a mermaid tale
Author: Pauline Creeden
Genre: YA Fantasy/Myth

BLURB

Her kind treats her as less-than-human, but she’s always been so much more.

Mermaid life has never been easy for Verona. Her scars give evidence of her abuse. When her day of reckoning arrives, she is determined to endure exile. According to her father’s experience, exile is better than becoming a land-walker and risking her life among the humans.

However, when she saves the life of a drowning human boy, she inadvertently sets off a chain of events which force her to choose a path: stay with the humans she has become attached to or return home to a life of scorn. A savage hunter draws closer, threatening even the humans. Her only hope is to keep everyone safe until the next full moon, but those around her devise their own plans.

*** I voluntarily reviewed this book, I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book, these are my honest ramblings and I hope you enjoy reading them - kat***

I wasn't going to start the book straight away, but I needed to escape into fantasy land after reviewing a non-fiction book, and I didn't put it down.
I've only read one or two mermaids, book's and the cover drew me to sign up to review it, and I was hooked with the first chapter.

Verona's status in life is not really explained in detail but she has had a rough life and has the scars to prove it, the life in a Mer Clan is Caste based and she is a 'bottom feeder.
Abused and cast out to fend for herself for a year, she has lived in a small island bay, watching the humans as she tries to survive.

One night she saves the life of Logan, who has just returned to the island with his grandma (Mama Wend), she inadvertently beaches herself and ends up with legs... when she is taken in by Mama Wend and Logan, who think she is is a runaway, she explores life as a human, but Verona has till the next full moon to decide if she stays in the world of humans or return home to a life of scorn.

When danger comes to the sleepy town, Supernaturals who want to capture Verona for her life blood, putting Logan and the other townsfolk in danger, Verona has to rely on her faith in her strength to resist their spells.

The book has lots of avenues to explore, the Caste system in the Mer people using twists in the truth to use the weaker merfolk to do their bidding hopefully will be explored more in book 2. Verona's experience with living with the humans shows her that everything she was told by the Mer's is biased to their advantage, but with the threat of being an attractive ingredient to the witches who exist, Verona, is also worried for Her new friends safety.

Verona and Logan have a connection, will she stay with him or go back to being derided by her people?

There is a prequel that I am going to check out, to see if it gives more information on Verona's life before her 'Reckoning' began.

It's an enjoyable story which will lead into the next book and hopefully more about the Mer and the Humans who have become family to Verona.

#4 star for this particular story

Olivia and Powell's story is short but sweet.
Its got everything you need to enjoy the story, but I liked the characters that much I wanted it continue.
Maybe they will show up in a new book?
The epilogue finishes the story off, but after she stands up to Alfred, I wanted to what would happen next to the pack and for Olivia. But I guess that is something you have to deal with in anthologies.  Will check out the other books that the author has written - yes.

REVIEW #2.5 stars for this particular story

An ok shifter story, there wasn't really anything new in the trope, and maybe thats why I think it dragged a bit for me.
The writing style was good, but it just didn't make me want to keep reading like the first story. I put it down until I had nothing else nearby to read.

REVIEW #3 stars for this particular story

*** I voluntarily reviewed this book, I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book, these are my honest ramblings and I hope you enjoy reading them - kat***

I like this story, but I wished that the special abilities and connection Kate and Callan had between them had been explained. I'm left with a few unanswered questions. That being said, it was a good story, a bit graphic in the sex scenes but enjoyable non the less.

I have given the anthology an overall score of 4 stars but this was mainly due to my enjoyment of the first book.

Jenni's review

This review is from: Mated: A Paranormal Romance Shifter Anthology: Saving His Wolf\Wolf Summer\Drawn to the Wolves (Kindle Edition)
***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.***

These 3 books are unique in their own way, even though they are all paranormal books, they are different. The first story, I fell in love with it quickly. A women running from her pack, blind, and scared. She gets saved by a werebear, who realizes this scared woman is his fated mate. They seek out answers to find out why she cannot shift. Is it just because of her disability of being born blind? Tragedy strikes. Can these fated mates overcome their obstacle and live happily together? Or will it be too late?
Book 2 was just as enthralling. What happens when your best friend, the one you’ve loved, either dies at your hands or you use your ability as a shifter to change her? The alpha cannot live without her, therefore he makes the decision of changing her. Not only does she find out who he really is, but she realizes what she means to him as well. Can she stand to be with him after he took the decision from her, or can they overcome this obstacle and be together forever?
Book 3 was just as exceptional as the others. An alpha senses something/someone is in distress. When he discovers his fated mate is being accosted by his cousin and a wolve, he comes to her rescue, even though is accidentally landed on their property. Family issues are thrown into place, as well as her fear of wolves, due to a tragic accident that occurred when she was a kid. Can the alpha take care of the threats, as well as working on her fear of wolves? Or will this be a lost cause?
All books were very well written, and each author knows how to throw you into the lives of these stories. I highly recommend this book. You get 3 stories in 1, how can you go wrong?

Vinehart FarmVinehart Farm by Lisa Kent
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.*** This was not particularly a great book for me. Not saying it wasn’t well written or bad for others, it just wasn’t my cup of tea. That being said, it was very well written, the descriptions can easily put you in the place, as well as feeling what the characters are feeling. Eva just recently lost her parents, and is working on her grief and sorrow of her loss. While working on that, she is also working on her house one room at a time, making it new and vibrant.
Unbeknownst to her, she is thrown into a community “battle”. She starts writing, and because of her stating facts and her feelings, she gets pushed more in the community then she really wants to. Eva’s High School friend comes for a visit, and you can definitely see there is some kind of strong feelings between these 2. Could we be looking at an HEA? Can HS friends turn to lovers?
Like I mentioned before, this isn’t a book I typically read, but don’t let that deter you into reading this story. It’s a very homey, loving book. The descriptions are fabulous and you feel like you are really there. For someone who loves country, wholesome books. I would highly recommend this

Risk one to save many. That’s the
unbreakable code of The Perfect Order. But now, without even trying, Madison has gotten under his skin and inside his heart. With the fate of the city resting in his hands, how he can do the right thing when he no longer knows what that is?

***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.***

This book was a very intriguing read. It had it’s good, bad, and ugly parts. Once the action started, it seemed to never end. Robert convinced his friend Madison to cover the estate in Staten Island, who belongs to Vance Goldston. However, when Madison is done and trying to leave, she happens to overhear a conversation she definitely should not be hearing, then walks out a broken and beaten woman followed by Vance himself. To top everything off, she runs into even more problems on the ferry heading home. Now Madison is in more trouble than she can handle. Then walks in Seth, Madison meets him initially in the mansion, however he seems to be somebody completely different. Who are truly who they say they are in this book? It’s one mystery after another. Now with life or death decisions in the future, what is Madison to do? And where to Seth stand in all of this?

This is a great read, one I would recommend to someone who loves a good suspense and mystery. This is a keep you on your toes type of book which keeps you guessing around each corner. You think you may know, but do you really?

Stone Cold Angel (The Perfect ct Order Book #2)Stone Cold Angel by Amy Deason
Jenni's rating: 5 of 5 stars

***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.***

From the very beginning of the story you get sucked into the suspense, action, and mystery. You start off the journey with Cadence on the hunt for her missing father. She’s left with a mysterious email from her father, one that leaves her baffled. Unbeknownst to Cadence, her coming to Russia puts her in serious harm’s way. Cadence isn’t one to sit down and take the hits, she is portrayed as a strong willed lady.
Then walks in Nikolas, from Russia, but hasn’t lived there in some time. He gets put on a mission to keep Cadence safe and away from the people who took her father. Nikolas is a great character in his own. He grew up in a tough world, fought through all that came his way, and ended up being a tough man with a hard exterior. However, with his run in with Cadence, some of that tough exterior slips away. Both of these characters are strong in their own ways, however, when they are combined, they are a force together.
This book is a really great read. Great descriptions, constant action, and great characters to pull it all together. Check out my review of book 1 below.
