Title: Tandem
Author: Jennifer Ryder
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: March 20, 2018

Kyle Kingston-Moore has a reputation.

Adrenaline seeker. Commitment-phobe. Gigolo of the skies.
He’s worked tirelessly to make a success out of Sensational Skydives, on occasion providing extra services to deliver the ultimate jump experience. The adrenaline helps him forget the loneliness and the gaping whole left in his heart. When the rush wears off, he’s on the hunt again—a vicious circle of avoidance.
Kalani Hart knows all about avoidance.
Wide-open spaces. Social situations. Uncontrolled environments.
For years, fear has crippled Kalani’s attempts to lead a normal life after a random attack that tore her family apart. Finally, Kalani is on her way to recovery. She knows she needs to face her nightmares, but taking the plunge is easier said than done. When her therapist challenges her to take on skydiving, item number one on her bucket list, Kalani has to decide if she’s truly ready to take charge of her life.
Will one tandem jump with Kyle be the key to Kalani getting her life back, or will they both find themselves stranded in a place where their hearts decide what happens next?
When the adrenaline is this high, anything can happen.

Tandem (a Spark Series spin-off)

Kat's rating: 4 of 5 stars

Tandem is a new book from an author that gives a solid contemporary romance story with characters that you can relate to.

In this book we have Kyle, he had it all, his life was on track until a tragedy pulled it slowly apart.

We are given pieces of each characters past as we progress through the book, each chapter draws you in, the writing flowed flawlessly, and my heart ached, stuttered and then leapt into the hope of the future with the characters as I read.

Now I didn’t like how Kyle spiralled after his life fell apart, but in reality how people react when their heart is broken isn’t pretty, its brutal and we all deal with stuff differently – so Ms. Ryder did a good job in creating Kyle into a character who was human, flawed and living day to day, shutting off his feelings and distancing himself from his past friends.

Kalani, thought her life was perfect, until one fateful night took everything away and buried her in survivors guilt.  Turning from the bright butterfly she was into a traumatized survivor was too much for some people to deal with (and again Ms Ryder did a great job in drawing the reader into the situations – I felt it all, I really got how Kalani felt and I cheered for her in every step she took to step out of the darkness) I wanted to throttle some of the characters who were close to Kalani.

That’s all I will say on the storyline, this is a second chance romance where two broken hearts find each other, and together they learn to mould what was left of their hearts (because I know neither situations are something anyone could get over completely) into a new and blossoming future together.

I enjoyed delving back into Ms. Ryder’s writing.  This was a good solid 2nd chance romance that will appeal to readers.

*** this review is MY honest opinion and I have NOT received any compensation nor been requested to review the book ***

Worth Every RiskWorth Every Risk by Terri E. Laine
Jenni's rating: 5 of 5 stars

**I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.** This is definitely one of the greatest reads I’ve read so far this year. So many emotions get pulled from you as you are reading this. My only warning.. Make sure you set plenty of time away from everything so you can read this, you will find it almost impossible to put the book down as soon as you start reading it. I’ve read previous work from this author, and she does not disappoint one bit!
Andi and Chase have known each other for many years growing up, but it seems that their feelings for friendship are wanting to escalate further. However, with Chase being Andi’s brother’s best friend, you have to follow guy code and leave his sister alone. Is it possible to hold onto such feelings and not doing anything with them?
Andi wants nothing more than to make sure Chase follows his dream of being a great soccer player. While bundling up her feelings for her friend, she lets him leave. She continues on with her life, till one day, 3 years later, Chase comes waltzing back in. Can old feelings come back from the past or have they been separated too long? Have their lives changed too much for them to have a possible future together?
This is a really hard review to do, without giving so much away. So many unexpected things happen as you are reading this story. I was on a constant high reading this, afraid to put it down not wanting to miss the next thing that happens. If you want a constant rollercoaster ride of adventure and emotions, don’t pass up your opportunity to grab this book!

Bashful

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

**I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.** I just absolutely enjoyed reading this book. It was cute, funny, and mixed with a little bit of drama. You definitely get a feel for how the characters feel. The writing is excellent, especially for a debut author. I was highly impressed with the author and her story.
Callie has been doing what she can to leave the past in the past, especially when it involves the one and only Sebastian “Bash”. After Bash left, to further his education for a couple years, Callie was left picking up the pieces of her heart. But was Bash even reciprocating his feelings for Callie? Or was Bash into someone else? 2 Years later, a certain someone returns. Callie finally gets her shot as one of the leading roles in the play at her school, the one and only Bash gets the other role. What can Callie do to protect her heart? Can they remain friends for the sake of their possible futures?
If you want a really great read, I highly suggest this one. You will feel just about every emotion that’s out there as this story plays out.

Jenni gave 4Stars and I gave 3.5 Stars out of 5 - NOTE we read this book when it first released

JENNI'S REVIEW
***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.*** This was a really good book to read, yes a few editing issues here and there but nothing that made it too difficult to read. There is also mild changing is writing style but yet again, it was still relatively an easy read.
You start off with Jeremiah, an American Playboy, who gets sent to live with his Aunt to hopefully calm down his rich way of life. We get a brief explanation of who his family is, something we need to remember for the story itself. Then we meet Fox and her sisters. They play it off that they are not witches, but in reality they are. There are many old stories in the town that they live in, and their family is included in those stories. Due to an evening dinner Fox and Jeremiah briefly meet, both seem drawn to each other but with no explanation. Then another chance meeting on the bus to the school they go to. Could this be fate or just coincidence? Not only is Fox running into Jeremiah on the bus, but her powers also seem to start advancing, she has a vision, but is it from the past, present, or future? This particular gift she does not want, but is it something she can embrace? Especially when disappearances start happening around their town?
From the beginning you are thrown into the action. It is a quick based read but action packed none the less. Some parts may be slight difficulty keeping up with, especially when all of a sudden a character cuts in, when they weren’t there in the beginning. All in all though, it is worth the read and I look forward to more in the series as well as the author!

KATS REVIEW
Witchcraft (The Meadowsweet Chronicles, #1)Witchcraft by Katie M. John
Kat's rating: 3 of 5 stars

#3.5stars overall

*** I voluntarily reviewed this book, I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book, these are my honest ramblings and I hope you enjoy reading them - kat***

When I first started this book I was going to DNF, I the writing style switches from UK to US intermittently, and using descriptions that are not used in the English Language, that ended up making the passages sound like a 5 yr old had written the sentence.

I am not sure how much research was done for the book but if the proper word had been used the sentences would have made more grammatical sense and not interrupted my reading flow.

Note: There are a few gruesome passages, due to the ritual killing.

Fox, comes into her gift at the same time as American newcomer Jeremiah Chase; is banished to live Aunt in the Chase ancestral home of Coldstone Hall. Spooky goings on in this house too, maybe they will be delved into more in the other books to come.

As the horrors of the disappearances are revealed the Meadowsweet Sisters, have to stop ignoring their heritage and get involved, but when the Chase family intervene too lives are altered and Fox and her sister's lives will never be the same.

So what did I think
Overall Plot line - good, it reminded me more of Sleepy Hollow than a UK witch story, but then I am from the North East, and the stories of witches are few and far between in my home area, they were witch trials in East Anglia, Yorkshire, Warwickshire.

Characters - Fox was annoying, shes 17 in the UK you leave school at 16, start college get your driving licence, most UK kids are not childish they are nearly adults, when she comes into a power, then decided to keep parts of what she finds out to herself, she caused more issues doing this and it made her look very childish and selfish too, people died because she refused to tell her family - and considering she knew she was a witch and knew what power she got, I could not understand this hesitance.

Chase - what a stereotypical male character, I am sure Ms. John did this deliberately - he had his good and bad points, but when he finds out his real family history is, he does the right thing - not what his family expects him to do, so he did well in my eyes.

The wicked witches ( spoiler free so not naming) - ooh the eldest was a mix of Cruella de'Vil and Evil Queen Regina from once upon a time.

I would say the first 1/3 was my least enjoyable part, but when the mystery starts to unfold the storyline kept me reading and ignoring the weird words picked for describing inner thoughts or what Fox ends up being, I enjoyed the story, one innocent girl dies and a boy's life is in ruins because Fox does not man up but I guess you need tragedy in the story so someone has to die.

**I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.** Want a book that will keep you on your toes and punched with a lot of emotions and action? This is most definitely the book for you! You immediately get thrown into the thralls of upper class southern society. The good, the bad, and the ugly.
Addison Potts was born into this world, but because of her mother’s mistake, was pushed out of the Elite group. She makes a reappearance to tie up some lose ends, however she wasn’t expecting to get tugged emotionally by a guy, a guy who is next in line to become Mayor.
Elijah, following in his father’s footsteps in becoming Mayor, can’t help by being pulled towards a dark haired beauty. She’s nothing like the elite that grew up with him. However, she turns into his solace, home away from home. She removes all the dark from him and actually makes him smile and laugh.
Can 2 different people from obvious different societies become a match made in heaven? Or will their separate worlds pull them apart?
This was most definitely a great read for me. The writing and characters were excellent. You can easily feel what they are feeling plus some. Make sure you grab this book, it’s definitely worth it!

Excerpt

“Well…” I stop to clear the rasp from my voice. “If there’s no picture of us together, we should take one.”

“Good idea.” He crooks his finger at me, unwittingly sealing his fate. “Come here.”

I put my jacket on downstairs when I thought we were leaving, but I take it off now, simply letting it fall. “I want you in the mayor’s chair.”

His eyes stray to my pooled jacket, then tick to mine. “You what?”

“In the picture. I want you sitting in the chair.”

“Oh. Right.” He slides out the brown leather, high-back executive chair and drops into it. “What about you?”

My bravery slips. Whose wouldn’t? This powerful, gorgeous man sits before me, outlined by the city he’s been elected to run. His thighs are thicker than my waist, his sleeves caught up around his elbows. A strong man. A man of conviction who will not be seduced unless he really wants to be.

Or is driven out of his mind and can’t resist.

Before I can second-guess myself, I move between his outstretched thighs and ease myself onto his lap. “Addison.”

I send him an innocent look over my shoulder. “Yes, Captain?”

His chest rises and falls. Once. Twice. “Take the picture.”

The fact that I’m playing with fire stops psyching me out…and begins to excite me. Maybe it’s the gravel in his tone…or the big fists that come to rest on the desk. No…it’s definitely the way he presses his nose to my hair and inhales. As if I’m not going to notice. But I do. I do and it makes me braver. Makes me throb between my legs.

“The picture, Addison.”

“Sorry.” I lean across the desk where I set my purse, taking my time digging through to find my cell before pulling it out, searching for the camera app. All the while, his muscles bunch beneath me, harder and harder…and that’s when I feel it. His erection lifts under my backside, so thick and glorious, I bite my lip to stop from crying out. I want to, though. I want to sob at the proof that he’s physically attracted to me and at least I have that much.

My hands are shaking as I lift the camera, my instincts screaming at me to grind down. Elijah’s breath is pelting the back of my neck. Other than that he’s completely still, though. But when I flip the camera around to selfie mode and get my first look at his face, there isn’t a jury on the planet that would rule him unaffected. His eyes are closed, nostrils flared, mouth open against my hair. “You’ve got five seconds,” he says. “Take it, or—”
“Or what?” Elijah stands up and takes me with him, my ass pressed to his lap, feet dangling off the ground. As if I weigh nothing more than a child. It only lasts for a couple mind-blowing seconds, though, before he settles me on the ground behind his desk. His heat begins to leave me and I sense my chance slipping away, so I twist around to face him. Still mere inches away from me, he pauses with his head tipped forward, hands flexing at his sides. “We could be more than friends.” After easing myself backwards onto the desk, I snag his necktie and tug him closer, guiding his hips between my open thighs. “Just for tonight.”

His laugh is more like a rough expulsion of air, the scent of bourbon hitting me. “That’s not how things work,” he says, his palms scraping up my thighs, twisting in the hem of my dress. “Goddammit, Addison. You’re not supposed to tempt me like this.”

Tempted. He’s tempted. My blood cells crash together. “I don’t always do what I’m supposed to,” I murmur, leaning up to bring our mouths close, a breath separating them. “If I wasn’t your friend, would you kiss me right now?”

His eyes fasten on my mouth, seeming darker than usual. Predatory. “You felt what you did to my cock, sugar. You know the answer to that.”

Author Bio

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days.

Her most valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the workforce as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention.

She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of ten years and six-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.
