Review: Forsaken By K.R. Fajardo @KRFajardo

Blurb

“Love. Oh, she is a fickle beast. So beautiful on the outside, she uses her charms to lure the desperate and lonely into her waiting arms. Yet, underneath the pristine exterior lies await a vile beast who thrives on pain and misery. I have lived thousands of years, been tortured mercilessly by my enemies, watched people I cared for pass before my eyes, and have been betrayed more times than I care to recall. But this I can assure you, all that pain wains in comparison to what I experienced the night love was forever ripped from my life.”
K

Jarod and Maya are on the run. Having at last escaped the cruel and manipulative rule of the Shadows, Jarod leads Maya to the only place he knows of that might can offer them sanctuary. But when his own past once again threatens to ruin her hopes of having a somewhat normal life, Jarod is forced to make a difficult decision in order to protect the woman he loves.

Meanwhile in Oasis, things aren’t going much better. With Citera bitten and K missing, panic threatens to tear apart Oasis’ once care free life. Fearing the effect the new blood bond will have on the K and Citera’s link, Jaron scours the forest desperate to find her, all while still trying to maintain the peace. However when Jarod and Maya’s unexpected arrival at Oasis brings to light some shocking information, Jaron realizes he has been made fool of. Determined to redeem himself, he and Jarod lead a search party across the forbidden border into Lanoria, where they will have to face the Immortal Council and K’s vindictive ex in order to bring K back home.

Forsaken (The Shadow Chronicles Book 3)

Forsaken by K.R. Fajardo

Jenni's rating: 5 of 5 stars

***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.*** This series just keeps getting better and better. I’ve read my share of series and some just don’t have that flow to keep it running and keep it interesting. This particular series has that continuous flow. The characters have their continuous development as well as the world they live in. Despite the many characters, they do not get jumbled up in the story line, each has their own particular story to tell.

This particular book in the series, I would say is the most intense. You get more of a feel behind K’s past, the good, the bad, and the ugly. The trials of Jarod and Maya’s escape, how lives are at the Oasis, and the fight to find K is in this story.
It’s hard to give any more information without giving away any spoilers. The best I can tell you is that this, to me, is the best book in the series. You find out plenty of information that you may have been questioning since the first book came out.

This is a very well written series that keeps you on your toes. It keeps your imagination flowing and sucking you into their world. You can’t help to feel what they all feel. This is a really great read and I highly recommend this book as well as the whole series!

What can I say? Read this series, its well worth it, but beware its not all chocolates and roses, well the blurb says it all, so you can see it will be an emotional read...

Phoebe Reede has suffered unimaginable tortures at the hands of her captors. Now home and safe, she can’t let go of the things that happened to her. No amount of therapy or coaxing by her parents can draw her from her shell.

How can she learn to live again, when everything she loved about herself is gone?

Well, I am keeping this short... read and see for yourself.

So what can I say about this book, I read this book a few weeks ago when I was sent the book to review I dropped everything and started reading, and didn't stop.

Ms Irwin has proved she can write emotionally charged stuff, the feelings and emotions she has put down on paper are heart-wrenching, I felt Phoebe's pain, torment and frustrations.

The book quite rightly so is not a light tale, its dark, but there is hope, we should always have hope even in the darkest of hours.

I really can't wait for the next book, I know its going to be worth the wait.

***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.***

Holy Cow!! And there is another one after this??

I thought this would be the end of the series, I’m so glad I was wrong! This story picks up with the struggle to live a normal life after the terrible ordeal Phoebe went through. However, she is not the only one who’s learning how to continue on with life.

Her whole family is struggling as well as Beau and Angel. They all try to work together to make the process easier for Phoebe, however there are plenty of triggers along the way to makes forward motion sometimes impossible on a day by day basis. Beau has been in Australia for a little bit, living not that far from Phoebe and the family, more or less keeping an eye on her from a distance. It took a little bit for him to finally come face to face with his love. It all starts with a suggestion of her getting on the track again.
This essentially starts the roller coaster ride of healing. A love between family, best friend, and lover are put to the test. Emotions will fly high, relationships will be put through the test.

This is a very emotional and realistic read. You can’t help but to feel the emotional and physical struggles yourself. You can’t help but to wish you could reach into the book and help out yourself. This is as real as it gets.
Physis is written exceptionally well.
The whole series is phenomenal and I cannot wait till the next book in this series comes out.

I hope Beau and Phoebe will finally get what they both deserve.

*** I voluntarily reviewed this book, I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book, these are my honest ramblings and I hope you enjoy reading them - kat***
We were introduced to feisty Evie in Drakes book, and I liked her straight away, when Aiden was in charge of keeping her and her sisters safe, the attraction was there, but Aiden had skeletons in his closet that he needed to keep away from her.
Hurt at his resistance to continue what was burning between them, she went off with Jim and Blake overseas to get over him, but Jim brings out worse skeletons out of his cupboards that put Evie in the greatest of dangers and it’s up to Aiden and Drake and the team to get her back.
This is a fast-paced and thrilling story, I am seriously addicted to this series. I have bought the box set of 1-5 to catch up as I started on book 6.
Aiden has a lot to make up for, and Evie isn’t going to settle for half measures.
When the whole family is in danger the team do what they do best - Protect those they love and hold dear.
It was a great read from start to finish, and I look forward to many more adventures with Caitlyn O'Learys SEALS soon.

Review: Miss Lilys Lovely Ladies By Jackie French @Harpercollins @jackie_french_

It seems quite thought provoking that I finished this book on the eve of #anzacday.
edf

Blurb

Inspired by true events, this is the story of how society's 'lovely ladies' won a war.

Each year at secluded Shillings Hall, in the snow-crisped English countryside, the mysterious Miss Lily draws around her young women selected from Europe's royal and most influential families. Her girls are taught how to captivate a man - and find a potential husband - at a dinner, in a salon, or at a grouse shoot, and in ways that would surprise outsiders. For in 1914, persuading and charming men is the only true power a woman has.

Sophie Higgs is the daughter of Australia's king of corned beef and the only 'colonial' brought to Shillings Hall. Of all Miss Lily's lovely ladies, however, she is also the only one who suspects Miss Lily's true purpose.

As the chaos of war spreads, women across Europe shrug off etiquette. The lovely ladies and their less privileged sisters become the unacknowledged backbone of the war, creating hospitals, canteens and transport systems where bungling officials fail to cope. And when tens of thousands can die in a single day's battle, Sophie must use the skills Miss Lily taught her to prevent war's most devastating weapon yet.

But is Miss Lily heroine or traitor? And who, exactly, is she?

Review

This book is both riveting and also heartbreaking, as the author has really brought to life the characters and the situations that the people who had to live through #WW1.  #5stars!
I cried, I felt proud of Sophie's growth as she went from a young Colonial heiress to a woman who was brave and determined to do her best to help the victims of war.
Sophie has been sent away to England by her father who wanted more for her than just a catch for the penniless neighbour who saw only the fortune her father had made with his corned beef factories.
The "Corned Beef Princess" really found her place with the mysterious Miss Lily.
one of my favourite quotes in the book was this one.
The past is never simple, and the future never clear. I learned years ago to live each second as it happens. Even the bad ones can have fragments of beauty at its edges - Sophie Higgs 1918.
This is good advise and I wrote it on a post-it as inspiration for when things get tough.
Four girls from different backgrounds come to learn from Miss Lily but by the end of their stay instead of parties and husbands, they have to face war and all the hardships it brings.

Good friends all of a sudden are considered enemies and good people are lost to sickness and war.
5stars doesn't seem enough somehow, this book had me thinking, wishing that we could learn from the gruesome events of not one but two world wars, but alas it seems the world still seems defiantly on a course of repeating itself.
It seems quite thought provoking that I finished this book on the eve of Anzac day. #misslilyslovelyladies was a riveting read and had me wanting to know more about the untold stories of the VADs, the voluntary aid detachments who had to become whatever was needed due to the lack of trained nurses, we get to see how life was for the women who farmed, manufactured and kept the countries moving. Ms French has created an unforgettable story, the publishers have created not only a beautiful cover, but it has the elegance of the era in its design too. I can’t wait to read the next in the series.

Jenni's  rating: 5 of 5 stars

***Review has been gifted in exchange for my honest opinion and on behalf of Kats Book Promotions/ Katsindiebookblog.***

Oh how I impatiently waited for the second book in this series, and I was not disappointed! Victoria, now coming back from a little vacation, is still wanting to do everything she can do find her sister. But what if everything she thought of with the disappearance of her is wrong? Natalie has been gone, but who and how you will have to find out on your own! With more darkness looming around the corner, what are the sisters to do?
Will the sisters reunite and battle it together or will this be a separate battle? Can darkness be overcome yet again?
Bettina is an elegant writer and is very descriptive. You are definitely left with wanting more when the next book comes out and yet again I will be impatiently waiting!
So far this is turning out to be a great trilogy and I’ll be waiting on more in the future by this author!

Author Bio

I grew up in the outskirts of Vienna, Austria. I always loved to read and secretly wondered what life as a writer was like. It wasn’t until my late teens that I dreamed of writing a book myself and in 2012 I could no longer ignore that dream. Just over a year later my first novel was born.

Thinking the traditional publishing route was the only way to go, I spent weeks researching how to prepare my manuscript for submission to the big publishers. Then something wonderful happened – during my research I stumbled across the world of indie authors. I was excited about the fact that I could publish my novel all on my own. I learned everything I could find about indie publishing and prepared my first novel for the virtual bookshelves. Since then I have also published a collection of short stories, as well as my latest YA urban fantasy trilogy.

I enjoy reading and writing science fiction, fantasy, horror, and thrillers. I love everything to do with aliens, demons, the paranormal and the unexplained, ancient mysteries, and pretty much anything else that's strange or just out of the ordinary.

I live with my husband on the Gold Coast in Australia. When I’m not writing, I’m reading, going for long walks on the beach, or I’m busy untangling the many story ideas inside my head.

NEW YORK TIMES BEST SELLER OF UGLY AND MISTRUST
**Write something worth reading**

I'm Margaret and I'm a self-published author.
Recently I was fortunate in obtaining New York Times best selling status on my YA/NA book - Ugly, and my YA book - Mistrust.

My last three books have been YA and I'm completely in love with the genre. I love being able to communicate with people through my words and stories.

My writing genres all differ, but the one thing I keep consistent is my heroines. All my female lead characters are strong, gutsy and not the 'perfect' woman. While my books all have romantic elements in them, they aren't just about the romance. They're about finding strength, acceptance and making life long connections.

I hope you enjoy my stories as much as I have while writing them.
