Moon Mark (Mark, #2)

Moon Mark by Scarlett Dawn

Kat's rating: 3 of 5 stars

*** Gifted in exchange for my honest review ***

I enjoyed this book, the story was interesting but it being a novella means that there is just not enough time/ word count for the storyline to be full enough to give the story Arc justice.

This is Book 2 but it is sold as a standalone so as such you should be given enough information to get the reader involved.

There are 3 worlds Joyal which is where the descendants of Earth live, Kireg where the white haired skinned inhabitants can mind read/ manipulate and Mian - not sure what they did other than attack Joyal at some point of the story.

Madeline the main character is sent off as a tribute to the feared Kireg, but when she arrives she finds a Civil war and although at first she is 'rescued by the rebels' they are then captured by the Dynasty, the current rulers... experimented on and paired with the leader Geo of the rebels has some unexpected revelations.

The first part up to chapter 10 had me turning the pages gripped into what Madaline would do to survive, she was a gutsy character that managed to deal with a lot considering Joyal do not touch/embrace or have sex anymore ( Yeah shudder lol) but then at chapter 10 it just Skipped into the future... Was I confused - yes, I went back a few pages and nope I didn't miss anything, we just skip to where she is escaping Kireg...

She is helped by Braita what I am assuming is the character from book 1 by the looks of some of the reviews I have read.

This is where writing a novella can sometimes be a hindrance to a story, if this book had a little more background information it would have made more sense for me and would have more than likely gotten a higher score.
But in the end, I did enjoy the read, but personally, I think you would be better reading book 1 in this Mark Series.

I will have to go check out book 1 as I did enjoy this world, the characters, and the fast paced action.

Cold Mark By Scarlett Dawn #Review #Scifi @ScarlettDawnUSA

I reviewed the book with the cover that has the 3 characters, I prefer the single model cover, (my preference of course, as I feel its a much nicer cover, but the other told the reader what to expect and looks quite sci-fi'sh and is the one that is on the Amazon version too. It also looks like we are getting another book in this series this year so I will keep my eyes out for it.

*** I voluntarily reviewed this book, I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book, these are my honest ramblings and I hope you enjoy reading them - kat***

There are 3 worlds Joyal which is where the descendants of Earth live, Kireg where the white-haired skinned inhabitants can mind read/ manipulate and Mian - A Warrior breed that have pointy ears, and have glowing eyes.

Joyal don't touch/embrace or have sex anymore ( Yeah shudder lol) Braita Valorn and her friend Jax are sold off as slaves by the corrupt President of Joyal, with no choice and no chance at saying goodbye to friends they are sent to Mian, in space suits with a limited supply of oxygen! what a start to a new life.

It's a good job that Braita and Jax were being trained as soldiers, it comes in very handy when they arrive on the planet.

I liked this story at the start, Braita survives and is sent to live with 2 men (the Plumas - men - live in pairs and have harems.)
She is their Soulmate, and can't be too far away from them physically, but treat her more like a pet, and when she finally figures out why she runs away... and eventually into the hands of Jax's owners, Pluma leaders of the East.

OK I know I was reading an ARC so the typos I will ignore, but the flow of the story gets confusing in places especially in regards of the soulmates, and the way no human have skin to skin contact anymore, which it seems neither Braita or Jax have a problem with when they land, after 18 yrs of no contact!.

I am not going to reveal too much, I don't do spoilers.

There isn't much sex in this book (surprising for Scarlett), so be advise if you were thinking you were going to get some group sex or something.

Like I said, I enjoyed the premise, and the world that Scarlett has created, but I feel that after reading other books of the authors, it could have been much better, so it gets a 3 star from me.

This is book 5 in this series, and I had not realized this when I signed up for the release. But wow I am going to be reading the first 4 books asap.
Now I was able to enjoy the story despite not reading the rest, but I know that when I read the series from the beginning I will enjoy rereading Chosen Fool even more.
I am not giving any spoilers. But if you've read the series you'll be waiting with baited breath for this book and you won't be disappointed.
I have only read Scarlett Dawn's woodland creek novella before this, and I am definitely looking out for others by ms Dawn, as this book has proved that I will enjoy them.
I love paranormal that's packed with action and interesting characters, and I am confident that this series has it in spades.
If you love series that have loads of curious characters with cool powers, and a world full of mages, elementals, vampires and shifters then you should pick up this series. But from book 1.
This is a New Adult series but it was not overly graphic in the bedroom scenes but if you are offended by m/m then there is one scene that contains reference to a relationship.
I really got engrossed in this book which considering I've not read anything about the world before shows that Ms. Dawn has created a well-rounded plot about how Caro deals with her current status as the Elemental Prodigy.
Now I'm off to find out how she got to be one in the first place.

Review: Blade of Forever (The Complex) by Scarlett Dawn, @ScarlettDawnUSA

Blade of Forever (The Complex)
The Complex Book Series.
A Lone Planet. One Complex.
Unlimited Chaos.Harley never expected to fall into the arms of her enemies.
Much less their bed.
But the stars align when two all-powerful Giants, with supernatural ‘swords’, flip her galaxy upside down. The Complex is one messed up place to find your mates, except when it occurs, there’s no stopping it. Not even when you die.
So what happens when a crafty President, a raging Death bringer, and a snarky Human collide?
One galactic, laugh-inducing, sexy good time.

Kat's Recommended Reads from this series Deaths Echo (5*), Halcyon (4*), if you are ok with M/f/M genre then Blade of Forever (3*)was also entertaining - review below:

Harley a human, heads to The Complex because her whole family is dead and she needs the money to cure a fatal disease. When she meets a Meta Giant, A bar owner and their attraction to each other was immediate, Harley is tall for a human *Scarlett has a funny sense of humour, not being satisfied with Harley falling for one Giant, no she goes on step beyond and pairs her with TWO!
The Giant President no less, and his best mate who is the Giant Death bringer/ bar owner.
Being Menage, you can imagine the storyline has a few hot moments, but thankfully it was at the end of the story. But seriously you have to realise this is fiction as the sex scenes with a 'Hung' Giant would be quite painful for a mere human female, and of course Scarlett made it menage, I have to say all I did was squeeze my thighs together at the bedroom scene, and not in a good way.
I enjoyed the overall storyline, Harley's life before the Complex was a brutal one and she was an independent woman, used to looking after herself. I didn't find the 2 hung like giants and a teeny human sexy. But others may.
an enjoyable read but there wasn't as much world building of The Complex that I have read in the 2 other books that are based on Lorn/The Complex Death's Echo and Halcyon which were also good reads, but those were more Romance M/F books.
