BLURB

She was never the target of a moment.
She was the target of a plan.

Someone has been running an operation against Andi Morgan since she was fifteen years old. She just didn't know it until now.

With Luke in Las Vegas training for the most important fight of his career, Andi is alone in Atlanta — and the campaign against everything she's built is accelerating. The pressure is institutional, precise, and coordinated in a way that goes beyond anything Jackson Rhoades could have engineered alone. The board. The audit. The donors who suddenly have concerns. Someone with thirty years of practice is running this playbook, and they know exactly how she thinks.

The closer she gets to the source, the more the people around her become part of the game.

The man she loves makes a critical decision about their life without her — one designed to protect her, using the exact tactic she's spent her life fighting against. The distance between them becomes something neither of them knows how to close. And when a piece of documentation surfaces that connects everything she's survived to a name she doesn't recognize yet, the fight moves somewhere neither of them was prepared for.

Some operations don't stop when the first threat is neutralized. This one has been running since before she can remember.

Go down swinging.

Split Decision is book two of the No Safe Corner series. Reading Low Blow first is strongly recommended.

REVIEW

Book 2 starts where book one left off.

The first 8 chapters felt...

It was a weird feeling, I was anxious, turning each page and expecting something to drop, and it does, but it's slow, methodical and just built up that tension and anxiety to what is going on.

You really feel the tension that both Andi and Luke are doing through.

Someone is having a blast playing pot shot at the one's close to Andi, like ducks at a fair ground stall.

There were times when I was so agitated by the consequences of Luke and even Andi's reactions to what was happening.

It really keeps up that tension throughout the book, but slowly through the final third of the story, Luke and Andi begin to work as a team.

The story ends on ... Not really a cliffhanger, but at the beginning of (and aptly named final book in the series) The Main Event... Where one way or another the conclusion of why this is all happening to Andi will become clear.

This series has been one of the more memorable storylines I've read this year.

And I can't wait to read the final book.

If you really enjoy suspense thrillers with an end game that is unclear, then this series is for you.

13 Minutes: The twisty turny YA psychological thriller you will not be able to put down

I was dead for 13 minutes.

I don't remember how I ended up in the icy water but I do know this - it wasn't an accident and I wasn't suicidal.

They say you should keep your friends close and your enemies closer, but when you're a teenage girl, it's hard to tell them apart. My friends love me, I'm sure of it. But that doesn't mean they didn't try to kill me. Does it?

Review

Well that's my Thursday done 😂.

I picked this book up from an Auckland little library at the Viaduct.

And WOW 😳. This is not my usual genre, but the blurb piqued my interest and I read the first 3 pages and I took it home to read.

So first I it was going to be a little like the movie Mean Girls ( which I actually watched last week on TVNZ+)

This was definitely more twisty (OMG the plot twists kept me on the sofa ALL DAY)

This book captures all the toxic traits of 16 year old girls... (I felt very attached to Becca, her character being more like my old insecure teenage self)

The storyline is told in multiple POV, diary excerpts, and text messages.

This format really kept me on my toes until the author wanted me to doubt the scene opening on the page.

I was definitely swept back into the past, as the author really did capture the highschool cliques, the  intense, manipulative nature of those who were at the top of the social hierarchy (l was very lucky to go to school BEFORE SOCIAL MEDIA) l only have to look at my granddaughters social media to see how it can be weaponised.

The book is fast paced, kept me totally engrossed, and trying to find the truth of what happened keeps the tension high, so much so that I've read this book in one day ( good job I didn't have much to do 😉)

I could easily see people I knew at School , as I read the book, the characters having very realistic insecurities as teenagers tend to do.

The 'Barbies' were very typical of the narcissistic queens who thought that the world revolved around them.

This book did a good job at creating the narrative of all the dark stuff that goes on in schools.

It deals heavily with bullying, manipulation, and betrayal, this book was highly engaging, quite dark and the mystery of what really happened was definitely a twisty plot reveal.

Although this is a YA Thriller, if you enjoy tense, character-driven mysteries where everyone is a suspect, it is well worth a read.

Never Turn Your Back…
Never Reveal Your Name…
Never Surrender Your Heart…

Madison Sinclair is a smart-mouthed photographer that enjoys the simple things in life. Recently landing a job at one of Manhattan’s top imaging companies, she works hard to prove herself but often falls short of the mark. Taking pictures of the New York scenery, relaxing at home with a glass of wine, and caring for her stray cat is usually the highlight of her day. Nice, quiet, simple. It’s the perfect life. But when her best friend cons her into covering a charity event for a multi-millionaire, Madison’s life suddenly becomes anything but simple as she finds herself in a constant race for survival. There is nowhere she can turn, no one she can trust.

Seth Reynolds has been in the game a long time. He knows how to get in, get a job done, and get out with no complications and no witnesses. The constant stress of the job is beginning to take its toll but he is not a man that gives up easily. Trained to be cold and heartless, he is committed to follow through with this mission no matter what. Racing against an impossible time table, everything is in place to take out the madman intent on destroying New York City. But when the naïve Madison Sinclair stumbles into his world, all of his carefully laid plans go to hell.

Determined to do what is right at all costs, Seth must choose between the rules he’s lived by his entire life or saving Madison from a fate worse than death. If he follows orders, he will be an unsung hero, saving millions of innocent people. But if he risks his own life for Madison’s, the entire city will be in jeopardy. The choice should be easy. Risk one to save many. That’s the
unbreakable code of The Perfect Order. But now, without even trying, Madison has gotten under his skin and inside his heart. With the fate of the city resting in his hands, how he can do the right thing when he no longer knows what that is?

Angel in the Shadows is a sexy and intriguing mix filled to the brim with mystery, deception, and suspense that will appeal to mainstream readers, hopeless romantics, and anyone that enjoys reading a good story.

***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.***

This book was a very intriguing read. It had it’s good, bad, and ugly parts. Once the action started, it seemed to never end. Robert convinced his friend Madison to cover the estate in Staten Island, who belongs to Vance Goldston. However, when Madison is done and trying to leave, she happens to overhear a conversation she definitely should not be hearing, then walks out a broken and beaten woman followed by Vance himself. To top everything off, she runs into even more problems on the ferry heading home. Now Madison is in more trouble than she can handle. Then walks in Seth, Madison meets him initially in the mansion, however he seems to be somebody completely different. Who are truly who they say they are in this book? It’s one mystery after another. Now with life or death decisions in the future, what is Madison to do? And where to Seth stand in all of this?

This is a great read, one I would recommend to someone who loves a good suspense and mystery. This is a keep you on your toes type of book which keeps you guessing around each corner. You think you may know, but do you really?

Stone Cold Angel (The Perfect ct Order Book #2)Stone Cold Angel by Amy Deason
Jenni's rating: 5 of 5 stars

***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.***

From the very beginning of the story you get sucked into the suspense, action, and mystery. You start off the journey with Cadence on the hunt for her missing father. She’s left with a mysterious email from her father, one that leaves her baffled. Unbeknownst to Cadence, her coming to Russia puts her in serious harm’s way. Cadence isn’t one to sit down and take the hits, she is portrayed as a strong willed lady.
Then walks in Nikolas, from Russia, but hasn’t lived there in some time. He gets put on a mission to keep Cadence safe and away from the people who took her father. Nikolas is a great character in his own. He grew up in a tough world, fought through all that came his way, and ended up being a tough man with a hard exterior. However, with his run in with Cadence, some of that tough exterior slips away. Both of these characters are strong in their own ways, however, when they are combined, they are a force together.
This book is a really great read. Great descriptions, constant action, and great characters to pull it all together. Check out my review of book 1 below.

Recommended for mature readers due to strong language and graphic violence.

Gone. Disappeared. Vanished.

When footage of his gruesome murder by a Muslim extremist group is shown across the country and around the globe, she wants the person responsible for the disappearance of the man she loves to pay. She wants him to lose the one person who means the world to him, too, and she won’t stop until he does.

Alexander Burnham has everything… Finally. A job he enjoys where he can actually make a difference in the world. The perfect woman who he’s loved his entire life. And the most beautiful daughter a father could ask for… Until he walks into her bedroom one morning to find it empty.

Gone. Disappeared. Vanished.

It’s a race against the clock for Alexander to put the pieces together and find out who has taken his daughter and what they want from him. As information comes to light, he is forced to bury the guilt he feels after losing his fellow team member and focus instead on finding and saving his daughter…

Before it’s too late.

Vanished can be read in conjunction with or separate from the Beautiful Mess series.

Review

Kat's rating: 5 of 5 stars

*** I voluntarily reviewed this book, I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book, these are my honest ramblings and I hope you enjoy reading them - kat***

I will say this was a hard book to read in one sitting, I had to take breaks at certain points because my heart and throat and eyes couldn't take it. Even as I neared the end, I had to go do something else as I was crying so hard I couldn't see my kindle! and I will say the warning is correct, this is NOT a romance, it's like reading an episode of Criminal Minds, the tension, stress of the investigation came over strongly in Ms. Leigh's writing.

I have been a fan of T.K. Leigh since I met her in 2015, I bought her Beautiful mess series at the Readers and Writers Down Under Signing, at the recommendation of a facebook friend, Shaneen introduced us and T.K. was such a lovely person, very supportive and free with her advice for new authors. I am sad to admit that those books are still unread on my bookshelf! WELL NO MORE, I am making time to read them this month (Somehow) #bloggerproblems! (very carefully so not to spoil the books, I really hate opening my signed books to read) #Bookaholic

So I read this book blind, with no knowledge of the series. I think I am glad in a way because I went in with no preconceived ideas on what to expect.

At first I was thinking it would be a 3 - 4 star as I had a bit of a hard time relating to Rayne, I couldn't understand how she had gotten so lost, that she would consider something so heinous. Even when I learned about why she was so low I couldn't understand how she thought that Alex Burnham deserved what she was planning to do. As I read on I got more involved, the story started to give me my answers, but also would give me more puzzles to ponder.

I may have taken breaks from reading to do other things, but my mind was constantly trying to work out what was going on, what would come next and whether Melanie would survive.
By 61% I was hooked, by the complexity of the plot and as the clues for Melanie's kidnapping were revealed the tension mounted.

As Alex and the Authorities try to piece together the clues to who has taken Melanie, Alex's life and those around him are put under the microscope.
TK has done a very good job at expressing the anguish, the neverending torment of questions a parent would ask themselves if dealing with this situation.

I lost my youngest in a shopping centre when he was 6 years old, he was found 15 minutes later, but the agony of not knowing, the rampaging thoughts of what may have happened, my heart was so painful and to this day it's as fresh in my mind and it was 20 years ago.
This remembered pain, well it came back in spades reading this book, I had a lump in my throat, at times tears, and a sense of anguish, as events unfolded.

This is a good book, but its dark, its tragic, but compelling and the emotions that come across the pages feels so real, you would think it was based on experience (god forbid).
But I guess that becoming a mother herself was all that the author needed to channel the emotion she would need to write this book. This book encompasses every parent's nightmare. All I could think while reading this book was how I would cope in Olivia's shoes. I tend to immerse myself into a story so, as I said and even now when writing this review I was getting choked up.

I could write more, but I don't want to put too much in the review, I recommend you grab a copy and read it yourself (With tissues at hand).

Excerpt

This was no longer home to a fearless girl who had more love for Olivia than she deserved. This would now become a place of nightmares for her daughter. Would she ever be able to sleep in this room again? Would she ever want to sleep alone? Would she ever feel safe?

Olivia struggled to come to terms with what Melanie’s life would be like if she survived this. She hadn’t done anything to deserve this. Alexander wasn’t without his faults, and neither was Olivia, but Melanie was so young, so pure, so innocent. Now, at far too young an age, she would be jaded by the cruelties of the world.

Would she ever see her smile again?

Would she ever hear her carefree laugh?

Would she ever feel her unconditional love as she flung her arms around her?

Bleakness invaded Olivia right down to her core as she fell onto Melanie’s unmade bed. Sheets that were once warm from her presence had grown cold, and Olivia could no longer keep it in. She wasn’t just watching a made-for-TV movie about a successful, semi-famous family losing their daughter. She was living the nightmare. wishing with everything she had that this would all be over soon, that it wasn’t real.

“Wake up!” Olivia screamed, slapping her face as relentless tears streamed down her cheeks. She curled into a ball, the torment growing inside her becoming unbearable. It felt like someone was ripping her open with sadistic apathy, the pace languid and sluggish, taking pleasure from each strained breath she struggled to capture. Her skin prickled with the heat of a thousand branding irons. No matter how loud she screamed, it wouldn’t dull the pain.

“Wake up, Olivia!” she bellowed again, louder and more desperate. Nothing worked. No matter what she did, no matter how loud her cries, nothing would wake her from this nightmare.

Sobs wracked through her body as she fought for air. She tried to gain control over her body and tears, but it was useless. She was no longer in command of her own destiny. Even the seemingly innate task of inhaling and exhaling had become arduous and complicated. Melanie was her lifeline, her reason for living. Without her, Olivia’s heart gave out, her lungs refused to work, her body shut down.

Suddenly, a pair of familiar, strong arms cradled her, lifting her off the torturous bed, cocooning her in a shelter only they could provide. They comforted her sobs, giving her exactly what she needed. She cried into her husband’s chest, a hundred tears falling for every regret. No words were spoken. Lowering himself to the floor, he simply held her in his lap, wiping her tears, providing her with warmth in this cold, hateful world.

She didn’t know how many minutes ticked by as he remained there, silently assuring her with his presence that they would get through this, that everything would work out. Still, she knew they would never be the same. This had shaken their family to its core. There was no returning to the way things were before.

Olivia cried harder.

She cried for all the time she should have spent with her daughter instead of working tirelessly for one charity or another. She cried for all the times she told her no when she should have said yes. Yes, we can have pancakes for dinner. Yes, we can go feed the ducks at the pond. Yes, we can make Christmas cookies in July.

Exhaustion set in as her cries subsided and she closed her eyes. The last thing she saw before drifting off was Melanie standing alone in a dark room, a blank expression on her pale face.

Wake to DreamWake to Dream by Lily White
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

*** I volunteered to review this Advanced Readers Copy, I received no monetary incentive for this review, these are my honest thoughts, ramblings and I try not to spoil the book for a reader, its JUST purely my thoughts after reading it - take them as they are but I always advise you to read a sample as you can on most ebook sites - hopefully this statement appeases Amazon and their constant changes in their T&Cs***

OKAY.... So How the heck to I do this review????
Note - this is NOT A ROMANCE - I would say its a Thriller/Horror Dark Suspense we will have to see what category the author puts it in BUT...

Be prepared to be #mindfucked #Bigtime #CriminalMindsCrew would have been going around in circles.

I will be honest and say that for 75% of this book I was thinking 3.5 to 4 star, because the book really was a hard book for me to read. This is the FIRST @LilyWhite book I have read, so this may have been part of the reason, the other was because I said I would review this without seeing any info on the book I didn't realise it wasn't a romance.

But by the end of this book I realised my error in thinking it was going to be anything like my usual reads. - MY BAD for not doing any research I guess, But I tend to only read a blurb so I go in blind and leave the book to impress me - not the hype behind it.

anyway this is my message to the person who asked if I would review it!!! and I thought yep that's my review!

#Max is a headcase and not in a #MaxHeadroom kinda way.
#Alice - well I thought she'd walked through the #Mirror but it seems #LilyWhite wanted to #Twist and #Turn our minds in #Circles right to #TheEnd.

I can say that i had some idea of what was happening, but only #VagueIdeas, so this Book #Keptmeonmytoes.

Its a book you will read slowly so not to miss any clues, but at 50% it gets a bit easier to follow, but be prepared not to put the book down till the end as I did - and be prepared to #Stayuplate thinking of it well after you finished.

And this was her reply: Hahahaha. That is awesome
And yay! Glad y'all didn't expect the outcome.
