REVIEW

The Chase

Kat's rating: 4 of 5 stars

I first heard of this series at a book signing, where Ms Fewing was attending (very lovely person to meet I may add) and as I love Art, and suspense books this series was the one I wished to read. I was lucky that a few months later there was a promotion for the next book in the series - The Prize. So I am reviewing this book in advance for that release.
I enjoyed this book, the intrigue, suspense and also the romance. Our main character Zara first love is Art, the history, the uniqueness of each artist, and the way each painting is seen by the individual. I really got how she viewed art so it was easy to get into the book and follow Zara as she entered the exclusive job at one of London’s top art investigation firms,
Zara's talent for seeing deep into paintings means that she ends up on the team that is helping the police hunt for 'Icon', the mysterious international art thief, he seems to be methodical, daring and selective in his heists, which in turn is baffling the authorities, but as.Zara delves deeper into the case, her personal life becomes more complicated also with the tragedy of her past coming to haunt her as she begins to make a future for herself doing something she loves.
When she meets Tobias Wilder, a billionaire who needs her expertise and her discretion. Wilder is an Alpha Male, used to having everything his way, but the sparks fly between them, as their relationship develops Zara can't help surrendering to the way he makes her feel, but will the secrets that Tobias is hiding kill the budding relationship? and the other question is...
Who is Icon?
Well I know now, you will just have to read the book to find you yourself.
*** This review is my honest opinion, I have not received any compensation for reviewing it, it's just my thoughts after reading and I hope you found my thoughts useful***

Every person has a story to tell. Some may be sweet with a happily ever after, but there are others that end in tragedy. Mine has yet to be finished. My name is Elizabeth Kingston and this is where my story begins.
I never thought my life could be so perfect. I have an amazing job owning my own bakery, and a wonderful husband who I love and who loves me back. Never once did I have to worry about anything, at least, not until the texts started coming in. They always begin the same way … numbers that spell my nickname when read upside down.
31773
It’s someone from my past, only they won’t to tell me who they are, but that by talking to them, I’ll figure it out. It’s a game I refuse to play. Unfortunately, I’m left with no choice when things begin to take a dangerous turn. His name is Anonymous and there’s only one thing he wants … ME.

**I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.** WoW! This was such a great, suspenseful book! I thoroughly enjoyed reading this. The only downfall, I read it too quick, I just couldn't put it down!
Elizabeth and Jake are a happily married couple, nothing but time ahead of them. Both working on great careers. Jake, a retired MMA fighter turned architect, while Elizabeth loving her bakery. Out of nowhere, Elizabeth starts getting text, thinking it may be an old friend from the past trying to reconnect, it quickly turns sour. Threats among others things are starting to happen, which makes them start putting 2 and 2 together. Their best friend Owen, who's an undercover agent, pulls all his resources to help out his dear friends. However, will it be enough? Are their lives safe once they get someone into custody? Or are they looking at a wrong angle? If you love suspenseful, who done it books, I highly recommend this. The story is excellent as well as the writing!

Excerpt

It’s closing time and Vikki and I are busy cleaning, so we can get home. My phone beeps with an incoming text and I look down at it and growl. “You can’t be serious.” Staring back at me isn’t a text from Jake, but from Anonymous. Even though I deleted and blocked the number ninety days ago, I still recognize it.
Vikki moves closer, her eyes wide. “What’s going on?”
I show her the text.
Anonymous: 31773?
Brows furrowed, she sits back. “What does that mean?” I turn my phone upside down, so she can see that the number spells out my name. Her eyes widen. “Wow, that’s cool you can type your name with numbers.”
“But not so cool when I don’t know who the person is,” I counter. “About three months ago, I got texts from this exact same person. Whoever it is likes to play games. I’m sick of it and I want them to leave me alone.” Taking a deep breath, I type out a reply.
Me: WHO IS THIS?
Anonymous: Why all the yelling?
I roll my eyes. This is just ridiculous.
Me: I like using all caps.
Anonymous: Don’t stop on my account. So, what have you been up to? Been a while since we talked.
Me: Yeah, it’s because I blocked the number.
Anonymous: Why?
Me: BECAUSE I DON’T KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!!!!!!
“What is he saying?” Vikki asks. I show her the texts and her eyes widen. “So, you haven’t talked to him since you blocked the number?”
I think back to when I blocked it and if my calculations are correct, the ninety days was up yesterday. “No, but he has perfect timing. My ninety days ran up yesterday. I might need to run to the cell store and see if they can block it permanently.”
My phone beeps again and a sharp pain settles in my gut. I just want whoever it is to leave me alone.
Anonymous: That hurts. You’ve always been friendly toward me.
Me: Obviously not friendly enough, if you can’t tell me who you are. It’s weird and it makes me uncomfortable. You need to leave me the hell alone. Don’t text, call, or try to contact me in any way. I’m happily married, and I want it to stay that way. GOODBYE!
Heart racing, I log into my cell phone account and before I can block the number, another text comes through.
Anonymous: Sorry 31773 but that’s not going to happen.
The blood in my veins runs cold. Hands shaking, I block his number and my phone drops onto the table. Vikki picks it up and reads the final text, her face growing pale.
“I don’t think this person’s going away."

Give Me Hell (Give Me, #4)Give Me Hell by Kate McCarthy
Kat's rating: 4 of 5 stars

*** I voluntarily reviewed this book, I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book, these are my honest ramblings and I hope you enjoy reading them - kat***

I have books 1 to 3 in this series they have sat on my bookshelf waiting to be read, but life got in the way and I haven't had the chance. BUT I will be grabbing them to read once I get to the UK!

Book 4 I have read as the first and I had no problems with doing that, this is a sign of a good author.
Kate McCarthy has created the story with enough depth that I felt no qualms about jumping in at book 4.
Mac is the younger sister of 3 very over protective brothers and parents that want to wrap her in cotton wool, and turn her into a propper lady... but that is never going to happen as
Mackenzie Valentine is wilful, fiery, and determined to prove she doesn’t need anyone.

As a child she met Jake Romero and he left a lasting impression on her young heart.

By the time she is 17 she is fed up of her over-protective family so she runs away to find Jake.

When Jake first met Mac he was a traumatised boy and after years in the foster system he was thrown into circumstances that led him down a path that leads to notorious gang, the King Street Boys.

Fate and a dusty road throw the pair together, but Jake realises that his life is not the best place for Mac, and he breaks her heart by contacting her brothers, this one action leads to an event that Mac will never get over.

Fate is determined to bring them together again, but will the pair be able to find the right path to love?

Well I will let you find out.

What I will say is that it is a very tough road for both of them but love can conquer all if you give it a chance.

I enjoyed this book very much, I cried in parts, laughed a lot at Mac's Sassy attitude and as I said at the beginning, eager to read the other books as soon as I can

EXCERPT

With a low chuckle I roll over on my bed to eyeball the stolen file that I’d slapped on my bedside table last night before crashing. I’m feeling rather pleased with myself until my gaze encounters Jake. My gleeful chortle dies a quick death.
He’s leaning against my bedroom wall, bare-chested, arms folded, and wearing nothing but a pair of black boxer-briefs and a furious glare.
My gaze drops to the bed where Jake has laid out the black beanie used to cover my pale hair, and the black leather gloves that kept my fingerprints from any surface I came in contact with.
Fuck. The sun is streaming in through the blinds and I know it must be late morning already. Clearly I’d forgotten to set the morning alarm. A rookie mistake. And now I need to get past the gauntlet that is Jake and somehow get the file to Casey before he enacts his own plan to retrieve it.
My eyes flick up, meeting his. “Morning,” I say coolly.
His jaw ticks. “Care to explain?”
Jake’s car keys rest on top of the report file and I know he’s seen them. Not only had I performed a break and enter last night, I had also added car theft to my criminal repertoire. Explaining that will likely cause my untimely death. I pretend to consider his question for a moment. “Not really.”
Jake pushes off from the wall and moves toward the bed, bringing him closer. “Well you’re going to.”
“No,” I say, casually sliding across the mattress and away from Jake. “Not today. I have things to—”
Putting one knee on the bed, Jake leans across and grabs the back of my long-sleeved shirt in his fist. He yanks and the distinct sound of a riiipppppp renders the air.
“My shirt,” I gasp as I fly through the air, landing on my back on the mattress with a hard bounce.
“I don’t give a rat’s fucking ass about your shirt,” he growls, straddling my body.
His hard thighs trap me in place and his hands pin mine to the bed. Moving will likely end with a cracked rib.
Jake leans his face down until I can’t look anywhere but in his eyes. “You can start with why you’re dressed like a thieving little bandit.”
“Because I stole your car.”
“Why did you steal my car?”
“Because I couldn’t get a cab.”
I actually considered calling for a taxi but then my movements would be on public record, easily placing me at the scene. I’d had to rule it out.
“Stop leading me in circles, Princess, and spit it the fuck out. What did you do?
I huff deeply, letting my frustration out. Jake isn’t going to just let this go. It leaves me with two choices. Lie or be honest. I chose door number two, because while I sometimes keep things from Jake, he doesn’t deserve outright deceit.
I spill out my early hours adventure, rethinking my choice of honesty as he sits back on the bed, his fury a slow-building thunderstorm.
There’s silence for a tense moment when I finish speaking.
“You committed a felony,” he says in a soft voice. I’m not fooled by the tone. His anger is a barely leashed lion. “And you used my car to do it.”
My lips press in a thin line. I hadn’t thought that particular implication through, and now I’m angry at myself. “I’m sorry.”
His expression narrows to one of vengeful retribution. “Oh you’ll be sorry.”
“I will?”
“When I paddle your fucking ass.”
“Jake—”
“Shut it,” he growls, his voice rising. “You broke into a detective’s house. You stole her property. You—”
“Casey’s property,” I mutter.
“Don’t interrupt me when I’m explaining your stupidity to you.”

Phase (Phoebe Reede: The Untold Story, #1)Phase by Michelle Irwin
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.*** I became a huge fan of Michelle with Declan’s series, and now she started a series with Declan’s oldest daughter? I didn’t think I could become a bigger fan! Phoebe is on a mission to figure out herself, trying to step out of her father’s limelight and basically finding her own. Being Declan’s daughter, of course, she’s going to pick up on driving, but in a man’s sport, will she be accepted on her own terms? She works out a plan with her friend Angel to take a vacation overseas. However, unknown to her parents, her and Angel separate almost immediately after getting off the plane in the US. Phoebe plans on touring the country while trying to figure herself out. On this trip, she runs into many people but one, in particular, catches her fancy. What can honestly happen though when you are on a tight time frame? Could this possibly be the one for her, even though there is a huge mile difference between them?
I honestly don’t know what I can say that I haven’t already in previous reviews for Michelle. She is a great author, writer, and storyteller. From page 1 she sucks you into her stories. You honestly feel like you are living the dream. Just like Declan’s stories, Phoebe’s stories suck you in and piss you off with the cliffhangers! Michelle definitely knows exactly where to stop, which draws you in even more, because you HAVE to know how the story continues!

***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.***

I was so excited about this book, I actually read it twice! What can I say, strong women and yummy men in uniforms!

Savannah is an Assistant US Attorney working tooth and nail on a tough case. By doing so, it has put her life in danger as well as all her friends, who are also working on the case in other ways.

However, that is not the only battle she is going up against. Since she can remember, she’s been in love with her best friends brother. Where the whole gang knows this, she’s doing everything she can do deny it.

Will the time ever come that she finally shows Noah how she truly feels, or will her time with fighting a drug trafficker end it all too soon for her?

Twists and turns, action at ever corner, moles, what more can you ask for in an action-packed novel? To make it even better, this is only Book 1 in the series, we will be able to continue the story with all the other characters in this book, the great characters that we’ve all come to love!

*** I voluntarily reviewed this book, I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book, these are my honest ramblings and I hope you enjoy reading them - kat***
I started reading this series for the Box set release, Hamilton Investigation & Security: HIS are great stand-alone stories but by reading them in the order of the release means you are not spoiled by minor spoilers, and of course you understand where AJ came from if you have read Book 1 His Desire
In AJ's Book, he is mixed up with one of Baltimore's largest crime gangs "the Magic Shop', you wonder how the heck he went from FBI hotshot to Criminal Enforcer, and this is kept in the dark for a while. When he is sent to threaten reporter Megan Rogers, his conscience is brought abruptly awake by the attraction he feels for her. AJ tries to warn her off. Megan doesn't listen, of course, she has too much riding on this investigation.
When Megan witnesses a murder, AJ has to save her and stay one step ahead of The Magician, the mysterious head of the gang who now wants both of them dead.
When AJ and Megan decide to pool their resources and enlist the help of HIS, the race to find and take down the Magician and his accomplices is on.
There were a few twists and turns, AJ was a bit too reluctant to enlist his brothers help, but he eventually realises no man is an island, and then together AJ Megan and HIS get into the exciting stuff of finding out who is 'The Magician'.
The ending was exciting, a few twists revealed at the end confirmed my suspicions to who was secretly working against the team.
I like these SEAL/Law enforcement stories as they have the excitement of a situation out of the norm, and with characters who you would love to rescue you - heroes, but heroes with flaws.
A thought of something I had read earlier this week came to mind when I was thinking of these Brave women that Sheila Kell has found to heal the Hamilton Brothers,
The Japanese kintsugi or Kintsukuroi: The Japanese Art of Embracing Broken and Flawed Things, a philosophy of awe, reverence, and restoration. The gold-filled cracks of a once-broken item are a testament to its history.
Megan, is the gold that fills the cracks in AJ who sees the flaws in him, but loves him anyway. together they are stronger. I am now reading His Return which I am really enjoying.

Luca wanted feisty little Adriana the moment they first met - and he fully intends to have her, hence why he's agreed to accept her proposal. In the end, he'll get what he wants. No commitment. All sex.

But, as Luca discovers, there's more to the ballerina with the overbearing mother - and he can't help but care about the frightened girl behind those sad eyes.

Adriana discovers Luca isn't just walking sex on a stick - he has a wildly passionate side, a lost soul who has suffered just as much grief as her. And it could be, they're exactly what the other one needs.

Author of the Lost Immortals Saga and the Seraphine Trilogy, I'm also a mother, blogger, reader, gardener, home renovator, and a slayer of Egyptian mummies in Tomb Raider. I believe in karma, coffee, and seriously wish that the producers of Xena would bring my favorite show ever back.

I was born in the race-car city of Charlotte, NC, and now live in the City of Alchemy and Medicine, NC, when I'm not hanging out in Bardonia (Lost Immortals). Most of my characters are based on people that I've met throughout my travels and adventures. People tend to stop and start conversations with me as if I've known them my entire life. Does this freak me out? Not really. My mom says that one day I'll get kidnapped by one of them. I told her that if it weren't for these lovely people then I wouldn't be able to create the stories that I do.

I have many favorite authors but there are some who truly rock my socks: Octavia Butler, Anne Rice, Kami Garcia, J.K. Rowling, Dean Koontz (on his good-book days), Stephen King (same as DK) Ann Radcliffe, Mary Shelley, Elizabeth Kostova, and so many more...

Some other common tidbits...hmm. I've watched the movie Under the Tuscan Sun almost 200 times. Seriously, the way I see it is if I keep watching it enough, then suddenly the house that Diane Lane lives in will magically appear in my backyard. I know. I have a huge imagination!

10 Fun Facts about the Musical Interlude Series
