Jenni's Review: Broken Protocols by Dale Mayer @DaleMayer ‏

Blurb

Dani’s been through a year of hell…

Just as it’s getting better, she’s tossed forward through time with her orange Persian cat, Charmin Marvin, clutched in her arms. They’re dropped into a few centuries into the future. There’s nothing she can do to stop it, and it’s impossible to go back.

And then it gets worse…

A year of government regulation is easing, and Levi Blackburn is feeling back in control. If he can keep his reckless brother in check, everything will be perfect. But while he’s been protecting Milo from the government, Milo’s been busy working on a present for him…

The present is Dani, only she comes with a snarky cat who suddenly starts talking…and doesn’t know when to shut up.

In an age where breaking protocols have severe consequences, things go wrong, putting them all in danger…

Jenni's Review

Broken Protocols (Charmin Marvin, #1)Broken Protocols by Dale Mayer
Jenni's rating: 4 of 5 stars

I am giving this review on behalf of Kats Book Promotions/ Katsindiebookblog. This was quite an interesting read, I’m not too big on sci-fi but this had its good moments with humor and romance. Dani and her cat Charmin Marvin, a very interesting name for a cat. But wait for it….. The kitty talks! So you have a talking kitty, a trip to the future, and a look-alike of a crappy ex-boyfriend. There is also a sexy Levi, who I believe is a perfect match for Dani.
I’m hoping that this will continue in a series, as I have many questions that were left unanswered. All in all, though, it was a great quick read. A great work in progress for a HEA. If you want to step out of your normal typical read of paranormals, romances, and mysteries, this will be a great read for you. I know I enjoyed it myself as well of stepping out of my norm reads.

The “Book Lovers Unite for World Suicide Prevention Day” Tour

Today is my day to post about the “Book Lovers Unite for World Suicide Prevention Day” Tour.
This blog has been quiet for a while - due to my family situation, but this subject is important so I have taken time out of my busy Grandma duties to join this event and share my thoughts on the situation...Afterall this affects more people than you can imagine.

As you walk down the street, you may pass someone who is struggling, someone who hasn't spoken to a soul in days, and if you smile and say hello, you never know, it may make that persons day... I try to look people in the eye, smile, say good morning, and answer back if someone says it to me. I have had days where I felt completely alone and that the world was just so hard to deal with, so that's why I make the effort and also why I am participating today. I have dealt with Depression, Anxiety, and abuse in my family and I am a great believer in Counseling rather than medication I am not going to go into specifics but Depression, Anxiety and even Suicide have been issues I have had to deal with in my family since I was a teenager old enough to understand what Depression was, and why I had to help my mum out more than my friends did theirs...

So many people don't understand mental illness. They think that sadness and clinical depression, or nervousness and clinical anxiety, are the same things. Well-meaning people say things like, "Suck it up," and "Overcome," and "Choose to be happy." Or, "Focus on your blessings," and "Put a smile on that face." I've even said things like that--before I came to understand. I may not have had first-hand experience, but being a daughter and a mum of someone who does, means I now have a greater understanding of the complexities for each individual. And so many people feel alone and misunderstood and have given up on fighting their mental illness. They need to know about resources. They need to know they're not alone and that there's help. But for some reason, many people think of mental illness as a personal weakness rather than as a disease like high blood pressure or cancer.

THIS IS LOVE by #NatashaMadison

Are you ready to fall in love?

Vivienne

Never fall in love.
That was my motto, and I was sticking to it.
Having my heart broken once was enough, and I never wanted to do it again.
He was supposed to be a one-night stand, the only thing I do.
One rule shouldn’t be so hard to follow, but then I went back for seconds, then thirds.

After that, I lost count of the number of times I lost myself in his arms.
When I wasn’t paying attention, my guard slipped.

Mark

They call me Private Mark for a reason—my whole life is a secret.
For two years, we danced around each other until I got her right where I wanted her ... under me.
Now that I had her, I wasn't letting her go. I thought we were on the same page.
I thought we were building something great.

Boy, was I ever wrong.

I had no idea that while I was falling in love, she was trying to convince herself we were temporary.
She thought I’d walk away.

She was wrong.

Now it's time to convince her she wants us too and to show her that the crazy, wild thing we have ... #ThisIsLove.

The Taste of Her Words by Candace Knoebel Review

Blurb

Andrea was my first taste of love.

She was there throughout my childhood and into adulthood. Her words were a secret I wasn’t supposed to know. Truths and pain bled onto papers that shredded my innocence and carved a hole in my heart only she could fill.

Her words were my first kiss. They were the uneven breaths I took when I saw her, and my hands between her thighs inside the dreams she haunted. She was my best friend’s older sister and, even though she didn’t know it yet, she was the pen that would ink our destiny into the stars.

Dean tempted me to cross a line I never thought I would.

It had been so long since someone looked at me the way he did. Five years since his starry gaze caressed my words and I ran from a kiss I couldn’t shake. He was everything I should stay away from, but how could I resist the beautifully broken man whose touch stoked a fire within my soul?

Dean was the missing words to my fairy tale. The parchment I could safely put my most intimate thoughts to. But when secrets from the past catch up with us, how could our perfectly plotted ending survive?

*** This is a full-length, stand-alone novel that touches on the topic of domestic abuse. Suitable for ages 18+ ***

The Taste of Her WordsThe Taste of Her Words by Candace Knoebel
Jenni's rating: 5 of 5 stars

***I voluntarily reviewed this book for Katsindiebookblog, and I gained no monetary incentives nor was I specifically requested to review the book.*** Holy S**T! This is right up there with some of my best reads so far this year! I’m not sure what I expected after reading the synopsis, but I never expected this! The author’s words are magical and so life like. You are easily thrown into the world with each word.
Andy lives the world of single mothers. It’s a very hard world to live in, especially if you have personally done so. Having a controlling ex does not help matters at all. Dreams get put on hold, everything must be put aside so your priorities gets taken care of.
Dean has lived in the proverbial shadows for years. A passionate kiss was shared years ago, however, age and friendships are blocking all paths. However, when you just can’t take it anymore, you are pushed to fight for what is rightfully yours. That is what Dean sets off to do.
Each character has their own issues to work with, would it be easier to work on them apart, or could it help with fighting them together? When love and a child are involved, it changes everything. How you think and how you act. Can these 2 fight their issues and demons and be what they both want? A loving relationship and family? Or will their demons and issues stand between them and they will go to live the life neither of them truly want?
This was a very well written book, great descriptions, and a feeling of being in the story yourself. You can definitely feel what the characters are feeling at each moment. I highly recommend this book. This is a unique story with much inside to tell. Don’t hesitate to One-Click this!
