Review: WILDFLOWERS: An End of the World Romance by Kylie Scott!

WILDFLOWERS: An End of the World Romance By Kylie Scott
Release Date: July 8

Don’t miss this heart pounding apocalyptic romance from New York Times bestselling author Kylie Scott!

Blurb:

There’s only one person Dean Wallace wants to save from the end of the world: sunshine girl from across the street. She’s always smiling. Who knows, maybe she can teach him a thing or two about how to live? But saving her against her will is harder than he expected.

Astrid Hardy doesn’t know what to think when she wakes up in her hot neighbor’s basement. He says he wants to protect her from the deadly virus threatening to collapse society. But that sounds like paranoid conspiracy theory nonsense, and losing her sh*t seems like the correct response.

As they watch the downfall of the world play out online, hear approaching gunshots, and smell smoke from nearby burning buildings, it all starts to seem horribly realistic. With almost everyone they know dead, and law and order gone…how will they navigate this new world together?

Review:

This is a well written (but light hearted) depiction of what life could be like after an apocalypse.
I'm not a fan of the zombie apocalypse type genre, nor TV like the walking dead. (So if you are hoping for dark gritty horror, this is not for you).
but I like the the way Kylie Scott has written this from the start, makes it feel like this could be possible, (well we've already been through Covid, God help us if we do get something worse).
But, I was hooked from the first chapter.

Dean - good choice of name, my mind conjures up a cross between Dean Winchester ( I may say I don't like zombies, but I am definitely a paranormal fan) and a combination of my favorite military alpha males, honourable, but willing to do what needs to be done to save someone.

Astrid - l like her character, she's the average girl next door - but I read her as being way younger than the age she's actually in the book (but she's easy to relate to, kept herself to herself, but had a life she enjoyed) the first actual encounter with Dean was such a great read)

The story is quite fast paced, it doesn't linger on the nitty gritty of the situation, but it does make you think about what you would do if heaven forbid the world doe turn to crap.

Overall I enjoyed the book, it's been the first book this year that kept me up reading till 3am!

The guy I just met at the mansion I inherited from a complete stranger?

He's drop-dead gorgeous. Sexy. And rude with a Capital R.
Turns out he's not the hot gardener as I wrongly assumed.
He's not only a famous rockstar who grew up in the house, he's also ready to fight for it. And being both hot-headed and Irish, he's going to fight hard and dirty.
I'm not moving out. Full Stop.
But neither is he.

So we agree on some simple rules.
We'll play roommates for a while.
What could possibly go wrong?

Living together with an Irish Hothead will surely cause a major storm. Let's hope bracing that storm won't turn into a hurricane.

Review

🌟🌟🌟🌟♥️ Four Stars out of five

Lori inherited a mansion from a lady she met and helped once in her cafe, her life was in tatters, so she left it all behind to go find out how, Sell up and sort out her life back home?

But the mansion came with extra baggage 😉
He's drop dead gorgeous. Sexy. And rude with a Capital R.
Turns out he's not the hot gardener as Lori wrongly assumed. He's the famous rock star who grew up in the house, he's also ready to
fight for it. And being both hot-headed and Irish, he's going to fight… 😁.

And there the fun begins...

This is the first book I read from this author, and I will be reading the second instalment...
Yes it ended in a cliff hanger 😭.

But don't let that put you off, this was a light fun read, I didn't put it down.

The writing flowed, the characters draw you into the dilemma that Lori has to face, as well as the attraction towards each other.

Patrick grew on me eventually.

There's a lot of unanswered questions that I imagine book 2 will reveal.
But overall I recommend reading the book, hopefully book 2 will be out soon 🙏

That Girl Who Ran Off and Kissed a Vampire by K.R.S. McEntire My rating: 3 of 5 stars

That Girl Who Ran Off and Kissed a Vampire (#ThatGirlWho #1)That Girl Who Ran Off and Kissed a Vampire by K.R.S. McEntire
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

this book sounded like something that would be right up my street, and although I did enjoy the story, it took a long time for the story to get going, and then it ended with a cliffhanger 🫣.

the MC is 18 years old, but was very naive and trusting, I don't know many Neurodivergent people but I just thought she was just a bit socially awkward, shy and being adopted felt like she 'had to be good'. I Saw a lot of my teenage self in her insecurities. and my brain never shuts up 🤷, if this is what being ND means maybe I'm one? but anyway whether the author wanted to label Raven or not, she was a likable character.

one thing didn't understand was the blurbs first paragraph
'quote' Eighteen-year-old Raven has always had a college, a stable job, and marriage to her high school sweetheart—all within the safe boundaries of her comfort zone'- unquote. this didn't make sense to me as:

1- she puts off college... to stay with her friend/boyfriend? so she's not got college?
2 - the stable job, she's had it for 3 weeks?
3 - she's not married, hasn't even got as far as sleeping with the boyfriend?

the blurb also says that Raven is adopted into a family of high achievers, which was an odd way to describe a librarian and a teacher, but anyway the family dynamics were a briefly described and not many scenes were with the parents, so you don't really get to show the family dynamics worked.

anyway onto the actual storyline:

so after the slow start the story got more interesting once she was in the other realm.

Hunter the vampire was an interesting character, he's lying to Raven, but also attracted to her, there was a bit of the 'Bella/Edward/twilight ' theme going on with them aka Hunter not being able to manipulate/read her mind...
shes attracted to him but he's using her, so it's sometimes a bit icky, but as the story progresses we meet more characters, and that brings more than just their attraction towards each other to the storyline, I thought the singing scene was good and I liked the unicorn a lot 😉.

as I said the book was a bit slow at getting going, but when at the end we are getting into more of the adventure, and I am getting into the book, it ends. 😔

I'm not a fan of cliffhanger book's, but the world and the characters that were introduced are enough that if asked I would review the next book.

thanks to the author and Gladys #XOXOtheNerdGirl #NerdGirlOfficial for the opportunity to review the book.
this is honest opinion and I have not received any compensation for this review.
